By working together for Redemptive Plastics, a collaborative initiative led by alt_ & Happy Returns Studios, we started to feel heard in a whole new way.

Because for the first time ever, we were given the opportunity to re(spect) each other's talents, re(member) how fulfilling a team can be, & re(ignite) our shared passion for bringing dreams to life.

Our mission with Redemptive Plastics was to pump up the volume for the voices of four brilliant young Chicagoans known as the Plastic Patrol.

This small and mighty group of young leaders lives in the Austin neighborhood, where they recycle plastic waste into a range of creative, colorful, everyday products such as stools and benches.

Justus met the Plastic Patrol last year, right before he moderated a panel discussion with them at the Design Museum of Chicago for the pre-sale launch of their new book published by Sophisticated Press, Lake Stool: How to Sit on Your Problems.

From that point on, we three of re(verb) layered skill upon skill with impeccable will to help publish Lake Stool, promote Redemptive Plastics, & empower the Plastic Patrol cohort to think bigger and bolder together.

We finally heard what “teamwork makes the dream work” really means ⏤ because we lived it in real time together.

1

We wrote poetry & promo fliers, edited & distributed Lake Stool, & recorded Lake Stool Live! in partnership with Real Ballers Read & the Austin Public Library’s 95th Anniversary Celebration.

2

We curated an interactive exhibit at The BLK Room with AfroDiscoSocialHour and created our first re(verb) curriculum to help Plastic Patrol hone their storytelling, design, and entrepreneurship skills.

3

We transformed a group of individuals & organizations into the ultimate “Redeem Team” who knows how to turn trash into treasure in more ways than one.

4

& We created an ecosystem where the Plastic Patrol could not only feel empowered to speak their truth, but also re(sonate) with the hundreds of people who need to hear it most.

the Truth that the difference between trash and treasure comes down to our point of view.

that our point of view comes down to how and why me and you choose what to believe and do.

that within the Present is our choice to create the world anew.

& that a pollution free home is not only worthy to pursue, but absolutely necessary to achieve too.
